Neo-Nazi gunman Ryan Palmeter who shot dead three black people in Jacksonville Dollar General ‘snapped after coming off his medication days before massacre’, neighbor claims

A neo-Nazi who killed three black people at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville “snapped” after he stopped taking his meds days before the massacre, a neighbor claims.

Ryan Palmer, 21, walked into the Florida store on Saturday armed with two guns, including an AR-15-style rifle emblazoned with swastikas, and opened fire in what police are calling a hate crime.

Those who knew the killer have begun to share details about his life. One neighbor, identified only as Greg, said he never met the killer but knows his parents well, and speculated that Palmer had recently gone off his medication.

“From what I understand, he was on medication and for some reason he probably stopped a few days or a few days earlier. That’s probably when he snapped,” Greg told News4Jax.

Greg added that Palmater’s parents are “the kind of people who help anyone, anytime, anywhere.”

Sheriff TK Waters said the shooter “hated black people” and wanted to kill “n******.” He described the shooting as a “dark day in Jacksonville history.”

Both the rifle and pistol were purchased legally and legally, Waters said. The gun dealers — Wild West Guns and Orange Park Gun and Pawn — followed proper procedures in the sale, he added.

Walters said a federal civil rights investigation has been launched and officials are treating the shooting as a possible hate crime and an act of domestic violent extremism.

Palmer left his home for Jacksonville at 11:39 a.m. and texted his father to check his computer.

His shocked parents then called the sheriff’s office at 1:53 p.m. to report the manifest they found, but he had already begun his assault.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis described the shooter as an “asshole” and called him a “coward” for committing suicide.

He said: ‘This shooting[was]based on the manifesto they discovered of the bastard who did this was racially motivated.

“He targeted people based on their race. That is completely unacceptable. This man committed suicide rather than face the music and accept responsibility for his actions.

“He took the way out for the coward. We condemn what happened in the strongest possible terms.

“We express our condolences to the victims and their families.”
