Manchester United ‘discuss transfer’ for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’ as Erik ten Hag sees late midfield additions, while Tottenham ‘willing to open negotiations’ for Danish star

  • Manchester United could make a deal for Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg
  • The Tottenham midfielder could probably leave the club this summer
  • However, United want to sell players before bringing in new recruits

According to reports, Manchester United are considering a transfer for Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the remaining days of the transfer window.

The Red Devils are trying to do business late in the market closing Friday, with Erik ten Hag desperate to bolster his midfield with more players.

Hojbjerg is not the first name on United’s shortlist but could brace for a late transfer after the club was given the chance to open talks over a deal, as reported by the club. Telegraph.

Tottenham signed the Denmark international three years ago for £20 million from Southampton under the management of former manager Jose Mourinho.

However, new boss Ange Postecoglou is willing to let Hojbjerg leave, along with several other starting first-team players, including England international Eric Dier.

United were eager to bring in Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina but could now turn to Hojbjerg as another option amid a spate of injuries to key personnel early in the season.

The 28-year-old was previously on the verge of joining Atletico Madrid after negotiations opened between the two clubs before they ultimately fell through.

There was also interest from Saudi Arabia – who have made a habit of recruiting Premier League talent – but Hojbjerg wanted to stay in European football.

Spurs manager Postecoglou favors a three-player midfield: Yves Bissouma, James Maddison and Pape Sarr, meaning Hojbjerg has struggled to gain minutes so far this season.

He has yet to start a game and has been reduced to two substitute appearances in recent wins over United and Bournemouth.

Postecoglou could choose to start him on Tuesday in the second round of the Carabao Cup against Fulham, where other benchwarmers are also expected to get a starting spot.

However, United’s need to sell players before they can bring in new talent could hold back any potential move.

Ten Hag must raise money through player sales, with the possible departures of Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay being discussed.
