Wolves are keen to sign James McAtee from Manchester City, but this would be dealt with separately from the deal for Matheus Nunes.

City have made an improved offer of around £52 million for Nunes and Wolves like McAtee and his club-mate Tommy Doyle.

Ajax, Sheffield United and Leicester City also like McAtee, with a move to the Netherlands being particularly attractive as a potential replacement for Mohammed Kudus.

However, City are unwilling to sell the 20-year-old as he is seen as a player who can compete for a starting spot in the long run.

Pep Guardiola’s side will consider a loan if it comes to a club they believe will further his development

In addition, Kalvin Phillips has no desire to leave City, despite the imminent arrival of Nunes.

A number of Premier League clubs have looked into loan deals, while City would also consider selling, but the England international is still keen to fight for his place.

The midfielder has struggled with playing time since his arrival from Leeds United last summer.

With Mateo Kovacic arriving earlier this summer and Nunes on the way, Phillips could once again struggle for minutes this season.

Elsewhere, Pep Guardiola’s side are working on the addition of left-back Valentin Barco ahead of competition from Brighton, Juventus and Chelsea.

They’re also working on another South American target as City look to tap into the market, as they’ve been doing for the past few years.
