Punchbowl fire: Man dies after a unit is engulfed in fire in southwest Sydney

A 54-year-old man has died in a devastating house fire in a Sydney suburb.

Emergency services rushed to a unit in Punchbowl, southwest of the city, at 10pm after neighbors raised the alarm.

Police and firefighters arrived to find that the Highclere Avenue home was already on fire, and when paramedics reached the resident, he could not be resuscitated.

The man died on the spot.

Police are asking for help from Saturday night to investigate the cause of a fatal house fire in Punchbowl in southwest Sydney

“A 54-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but died at the scene,” NSW Police said in a statement.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the fire.

They are urging anyone with relevant information or video, including that from a home security system, to contact Bankstown Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
