A former sex worker blackmailed clients by threatening to reveal they were unfaithful to their partners.

A court heard that Amber McCabe of West Beach in Adelaide threatened to expose her clients if they did not pay her for her services.

The former nurse pleaded guilty to three counts of blackmail against two people in November 2022.

Ms. McCabe received $1,360 and $650 in payments from the clients through smaller fund installments.

The court heard she was guilty of the acts against the customers after she became dissatisfied when they canceled their bookings.

“She had clearly become quite frustrated because she was constantly getting bookings and not keeping them…,” her lawyer Chris Pouras told the court.

“Unfortunately, she has taken matters into her own hands, at a great disadvantage to her.”

He said Ms McCabe ‘had no intention of causing significant trouble, except to expose their infidelities’.

Ms McCabe apologized for the threats she had made and said she would refund the money she had paid to the men.

The court was told that she will not become a sex worker again, but will instead study professional writing.

She hopes to “become a freelance journalist or write blog posts.”

Mrs. McCabe turned to sex work after an injury left her homeless.

She also lives with several medical conditions.

The prosecutor on the case, Peter Cannell, told the court that Ms McCabe’s crime was not as significant as other charges, but that her actions were negligent.

Mr Cannell said the woman received payments from her victims in batches of hundreds of dollars, including amounts of $200 and $300.

Her actions led her to find out where her victims worked and the names of their partners.

The prosecution said Ms McCabe’s actions were intended to harm the men by humiliating and embarrassing them in order to extort money from the victims.

It was revealed that both men were saddened by the woman’s threats.

(One victim) says in his statement that he was afraid that the suspect would visit his home and his pregnant wife and harm them, so there is an implicit threat,” the prosecutor said.

Ms McCabe was released on bail and will be sentenced in September.
