A Tennessee teacher, formerly named “Teacher of the Month,” has been arrested and charged with the aggravated rape of a student.
Casey McGrath, 28, was arrested last Friday by local police in Hamilton County after being suspended in March while investigators investigated claims she had “inappropriate physical contact with a student” at Central High School.
The August 14 indictment against McGrath states that on May 1, 2022, she engaged in sexual activity with someone between the ages of 13 and 18.
The legal documents accuse the teacher of “unlawfully and knowingly” engaging in “sexual penetration with a person at least 13 years old, but under 18 years old,” noting that she is “at least 10 years older than the victim’.
The personnel file of the 10th grade geometry teacher, seen by News 9reportedly stated that she was suspended with pay and that she is under investigation for “inappropriate physical contact with a student that results in no harm.”

Elsewhere in the file it was stated that the inappropriate contact was ‘of a sexual nature’.
McGrath has been released on bail after posting $10,000 bail and will appear again at Hamilton County Criminal Court on September 6 for arraignment.
Aggravated statutory rape, a class D felony, carries a prison sentence of two to 12 years, according to state guidelines.
The 28-year-old was voted ‘teacher of the month’ by the students, according to an article in the school newspaper that has since been removed.
Hamilton County Schools spokesman Steve Doremus told News 9 McGrath is no longer an employee of the district.

McGrath also volunteered as an assistant volleyball coach at the school, telling the student newspaper in the deleted article that “the opportunity to spend time with students in a non-academic environment[gave]her the opportunity to teach them even better.” know’, That reports Fox News.
McGrath studied mathematics at Lee University before earning her master’s degree in secondary education in mathematics from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, according to the student article.
