Twitter users horrified at clip of a enormous 10kg rabbit with huge ears
A giant rabbit has caused a stir online after appearing in a video shared on Twitter – with some comparing its size to a tiny human or capybara.
The video β posted on August 11 by Twitter user @Rainmaker1973 β shows the hulking creature being held up by a man named Donizete Teixeira Barbosa.
Donizete is a zootechnician, vet and breeder of Flemish giant rabbits in Brazil who has many social media accounts that provide a glimpse into how the bunnies are raised.
With almost 500,000 followers to his name TikTok and 270,000 further Instagram – both under the name Coelho Gigante Dois IrmΓ£os, meaning ‘Giant Rabbit Two Brothers’ – the huge herbivores have proven to be an interesting subject within the wider sphere.
In the seven-second Twitter video, Donizete’s hands look amazingly small as he holds up the giant rabbit to show off its dimensions.

User @Rainmaker1973, who reposted Donizete’s TikTok videotranslates the Brazilian’s words into an accompanying caption, which reads: ‘The male Flemish giant rabbit can weigh up to 10 kg.
The female can weigh up to 9 kg. They grow to a maximum length of 70 cm.’
Some users were so shocked by the size of the fluffy giant that they tried to compare it to other species.
One wrote, “Looks like a kangaroo,” while another said, “You can’t fool me, that’s a baby capybara.”
One person thought it was cuter than a larger rabbit and said, “Still cute as a button at that size.”
A number of people commented that the rabbit’s size is on par with a small human, with one writing, “Dude, unless that’s a super-tiny human, that rabbit is much bigger than the specs listed.”
Another puzzled user said, “Why am I not surprised that a rabbit can be almost as tall as I am.”
Some people joked that they would use the rabbit as a form of deterrence or intimidation, and one said, “I wish I had some here.” Help keep the weeds down in the field.’

An end user, concerned about the rabbit’s size, said, ‘Wow. A pretty big rabbit. If I were approached at night, in a dim clearing, I would definitely RUN!!!!!!!!!”
According to Mental Floss, Flemish Giant Rabbits are considered the largest breed in the world – with a male Fleming named Darius setting a world record at just over four feet tall and weighing 50 pounds.
Fresh hay is an important part of their diet, and high quality protein pellets help support their huge appetites, as well as certain fruits and vegetables such as: carrot tops, apples, peppers and bananas.
