Christina Aguilera celebrates the 24th anniversary of her self-titled debut album on Thursday.
The 42-year-old singer – who will be performing in Australia for the first time in 15 years – was just 18 years old when she released her 1999 album Christina Aguilera on August 24, 1999.
The album – and its lead single Genie In a Bottle – made her an overnight star and debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 album charts.
It would go on to be certified eight times platinum and would go on to sell over 17 million copies worldwide.
On Thursday, she took to Instagram and shared a video collage featuring interviews and footage from her Genie in a Bottle, What a Girl Wants, and Come On Over (All I Want Is You) music videos.

’24 years on the 24th. Grateful for all the love and support I’ve received from the release of my debut album and beyond,” Aguilera said in the caption of her post.
Aguilera rose to prominence at a young age when she joined The Mickey Mouse Club at the age of 13 alongside future stars Ryan Gosling, Keri Russell, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.
Turning entirely to music after the show was canceled in 1994, she moved to Japan in 1997 to perform with Keizo Nakanishi before returning to America where she recorded the song Reflection, the theme for the 1998 Disney film Mulan.
Based on that song, she landed a recording contract with RCA Records, which reportedly invested $1 million in writers, producers and vocal coaches for the young singer… with Diane Warren and Robin Thicke among the writers.
The result was her 1999 album Christina Aguilera, which is her best-selling album to date.
Genie in a Bottle topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts for five weeks in a row, with the singer taking the Best New Artist award at the Grammys.
The debut album is also listed as one of the 200 Definitive Albums in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
While her debut album showed her as a pop princess, she continued to show her range with her second album Mi Reflejo (My Reflection) of Spanish-language songs and her third album My Kind of Christmas full of holiday songs.

Aguilera has become one of the best-selling female artists of all time, having sold over 100 million records worldwide.
She released her ninth studio album titled Aguilera in May 2022, and the singer released a 20th anniversary edition of her 2002 album Stripped that fall.
It was also revealed that Roc Nation and Time Studios will collaborate on a documentary about the singer.
It’s unclear if the singer is currently working on what would be her tenth studio album at this point.
