A property manager has shared the heartbreaking moment when she helped a tenant move out of a property amid the country’s worsening rental crisis.

Ashleigh Goodchild, who goes by the name perthpropertymanager on TikTok, had the difficult task of evicting a client’s tenant because the owner would have been left “homeless” if he hadn’t gotten his house back.

“Watch until the end to see what happened when I entered the premises,” she captioned the video and added a crying emoji.

“I’m at a property where we’re about to get the locks changed,” Ms. Goodchild begins the video as she stands outside the rental.

The tenant has defaulted. We negotiated as best we could.’

“So I just wait for the locksmith to gain entry and see what it looks like inside,” she explained.

The manager said she wasn’t sure what to expect when she moved in, but hoped the tenant had removed all of her furniture as a cleaner was booked.

So fingers crossed. Come with me,’ she said.

Mrs. Goodchild is seen back in her office after the interaction, visibly upset.

“That was one of the hardest things I think I’ve ever had to do,” she said.

The tenant was still home, she added, and she hadn’t expected it.

“I sat with her for a while, I talked to her and I tried to make it feel a little better about what was going to happen,” she said.

“And I helped her pack her things and after a few hours I got her out of the building and on my way.”

“It wasn’t fun, but that was just my job today, so I did it.”

The tenant was young and she’ll be fine, the manager sympathized, even if it wasn’t much fun to do.

“I left her knowing I had done the right thing by her, emotional as best I could,” Ms Goodchild added, describing the situation as a “little speed bump” in the tenant’s life.

Social media users praised Ms Goodchild’s interaction and compassion with the resident amid a worsening rental crisis.

“These are such difficult times. Many people are just one paycheck away from homelessness. Living from payday to payday. She will remember your kindness,” one wrote.

“You did more than most people would,” a second user commented, “you showed her compassion and sat with her and listened.”

Another said, “You handled this situation with such grace and compassion.”

“We need more people like you in property management!!”
