Now the Crown ‘will recreate moment Kate wore risqué see-through dress that won over William at student fashion show’ in final series of Netflix drama

The Crown will recreate the moment when Kate Middleton won Prince William at a student fashion show, where she donned a daring sheer dress as she walked the catwalk.

The latest series of the hit Netflix drama will see Ed McVey, 22, and Meg Bellamy, 20, play the Prince and Princess of Wales in the early days of their relationship while studying at St Andrews.

The couple recreated the memorable evening when 20-year-old Kate walked confidently in front of her colleagues on the night of March 27, 2002, barely dressed in their dress. Prince William, who paid £200 for a table just inches away from the catwalk, was reportedly gazing at his future wife with her mouth open.

The lace slip Kate wore that night only cost £30 to make but is credited with kickstarting her relationship with William. The dress later sold for a whopping £78,000.

Netflix producers showed photos of Meg recreating the evening at the Edinburgh TV Festival last night, as they discussed how the upcoming series – which will run from 1997 to 2005 – will take a look at the heir’s early relationship with Kate.

Throughout the Netflix series, the actors will recreate the memorable moment when Kate took part in a charity fashion show in March 2002, wearing a daring see-through dress.

The filmmakers also shed light on the stark difference between Meg’s role and her previous job, where she worked at Legoland in Windsor, reported the sun.

They told the audience, “Meg was at Legoland in Windsor working in a costume, I think — as a chicken — but she’s nowhere near that now.”

The Netflix bosses also showed videos throughout the evening of William and Kate staring at each other longingly in a university library.

Behind-the-scenes clips shared on TikTok by actual college students previously showed Meg dressed in a navy blue jacket, khaki skirt, and brown knee-high boots, while her love interest is preppy in a plaid sweater and jeans.

The scene opens with Kate staring at her love interest before they walk into one of the college buildings.

As they leave the campus, the actress playing Kate recognizes William – walking past them – with a smile.

After walking through an old gate, William turns and stares at Kate – prompting the live audience to gasp from where they were watching.

Another recreation showed Prince Harry, played by Luther Ford, nearly shooting someone with a rifle.

A scene from Netflix's upcoming season "The crown" can be seen during the recordings in October last year

In October last year, a scene from the upcoming season of Netflix’s ‘The Crown’ was filmed

Show creator Peter Morgan said this week when promoting the new series, “Once you see William and Harry on screen, it’s just electric.”

During the night, the producers also confirmed that the fatal car crash of Princess Diana, played by Elizabeth Debicki, would appear in the upcoming series despite significant backlash.

The latter Netflix was criticized for its “odious” shooting of scenes recreating Diana’s death in a Parisian tunnel in 1997.

The streaming service insisted that Diana’s death in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel would not be recreated, but an insider revealed that her final days and hours would be.

Royal biographer William Shawcross called the series “hideous” and “deliberately hurtful.”

Speaking of the sensitivity surrounding the portrayal of the princess’s death, Edinburgh TV Festival producers stressed that this would be treated with “huge sensitivity,” the paper reported.

Executive producer Suzanne Mackie said, “There was no doubt that first of all we would be meticulous in our research and reading and listening, and of course second, and most important of all, that we would be sensitive.

“We’ve had very, very careful, long, long conversations about how we’re doing, and the public will ultimately judge. But I think it’s been subtly and carefully recreated.”

Ms Mackie added that Debicki was “so thoughtful and considerate and loved Diana so there was a huge amount of respect” when the scenes were recreated.

The show’s three young stars, who play Kate, William and Harry, have been spotted at high-profile events in recent weeks, but Elizabeth Debicki, who plays Diana, has not been spotted.

Ahead of its fall release, the streaming giant has now launched a glitzy publicity campaign to divert attention from criticism over Princess Diana’s death.

Earlier this month, the three young actors who played Kate, Harry and William were pictured together promoting luxury jewelery brand Cartier at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. They were also all present at the Netflix party with British Vogue in May. Ed and Luther also attended Paris Fashion Week together.

However, Elizabeth Debicki, who plays Diana in the upcoming series, is nowhere to be seen.

A source said: ‘Diana’s death scenes will be horrific and spark huge controversy around the world so you can see what Netflix is doing here, trying to overcompensate for that by giving viewers the glory days of Kate, William and Harry. give, and not only on the screen, but also off.

“They get aired a lot, especially when you consider they haven’t even been on television yet.”
