John Whaite has told how his heart was “torn in two” when he fell in love with his Strictly Come Dancing dance partner Johannes Rabede while engaged to Paul Aktins.

The Great British Bake Off star, 34, teamed up with Johannes, 36, during the 2021 series and recently shared how he almost fell victim to the show’s famous curse.

He said, “The reason I’ve talked about that story, and specifically where it concerns John and where it concerns my partner, is because I didn’t write anything that people didn’t want me to write.

“The reason I talked about that story is to illustrate that life is hard. We are fragile people and that sometimes our hearts can be torn in two.

‘And sometimes you have to take stock and think to yourself: ‘who am I, what are my values ​​and how do I get back to them?’

Speaking of the infamous Strictly curse, John also joked, “How wonderful that the gays are getting embroiled in a Strictly scandal… It’s a sign of progress.”

John cryptically confessed to making “some very big mistakes” in his life as he shared what it was like to put the highs and lows on paper.

“I’ve had a funny life, I’ve spoken very honestly on social media and television about my struggles in life, the highs and the lows,” he said.

‘When my publisher said if I wanted to write a book, I thought it was a good time. I wanted to show people that we are all human beings and no matter what happens in life there are reassurances that it is all part of the bigger picture of life.

“That no matter what, we all make mistakes, and I’ve made some really big mistakes.”

John also shared how he started “self-destructing” after his time on Strictly came to an end and admitted that he “almost” ruined his relationship with Paul by drinking too much.

He told presenter Christine Lampard: “I had that feeling of emptiness, I started to destroy myself, I drank too much, I almost broke down from the relationship with Paul.”

He then praised his partner, saying that he “don’t know” where he would be today without their “honest” cooperation.

His latest comments come after he shared how he and his fiancée Paul “separated for a while” after he opened up about his feelings for Johannes.
