David Beckham was left as a ‘very proud’ co-owner after his team at Inter Miami booked a place in the final of the US Open Cup on Wednesday evening.

The Herons staged a stunning comeback, fueled by Lionel Messi, by beating FC Cincinnati on penalties in the semifinals on Wednesday night to kick off a final showdown against Houston Dynamo.

Beckham, co-owner of the MLS franchise, was absent from Cincinnati’s TQL Stadium to witness his team’s progress to their second Finals this season.

However, the former England captain congratulated the boys in pink on social media after their victory.

The former Manchester United star shared a photo of Messi and co. celebrate their triumph, along with the caption, “Another great night in pink.” A great performance by the team to reach another final. @intermimicf very proud.’

Cincinnati had taken a 2-0 lead after Luciano Acosta opened the scoring for the MLS leaders before Brandon Vazquez doubled the lead in the second half.

But Messi inspired the comeback for Miami when he provided both assists to Leonardo Campana. The second time came in the form of an incredible ball into the penalty area in the 97th minute to force extra time.

Miami took the lead for the first time when Josef Martínez scored three minutes into the first overtime, but Cincinnati equalized when Yuya Kubo scored in the 114th minute to force penalties – Miami’s second shootout in a week.

Drake Callender saved Nick Hagglund’s fifth-round effort before 18-year-old Benjamin Cremaschi secured the winning penalty.

The final marks Miami’s second shot at silverware this season after lifting its first-ever trophy in the Leagues Cup Final against Nashville in Music City on Saturday night.

Beckham had been a regular fixture during Miami’s run to the Leagues Cup final, sharing an emotional moment on the pitch with his wife Victoria after his team clinched the title.

David seemed visibly moved when he and Victoria took a few moments after the game to enjoy the on-field festivities in front of a star-studded crowd that included Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman.

They shared a touching embrace, which came after five troubled seasons in Miami as the club struggled to emerge from the MLS basement.

They had attended the game with son Cruz, 18, and daughter Harper, 12, and the family enjoyed a day trip to Nashville the next day.

Harper also had her own shining moment during the tournament, walking out alongside Messi ahead of Miami’s 4-0 win over Charlotte in the Leagues Cup quarter-finals.
