Coles customers left confused and unable to shop as major Sydney supermarket is shut down during filming of their latest spectacular ‘Down Down’ campaign
Coles customers are confused and unable to shop as Sydney’s major supermarket is closed while filming their latest spectacular ‘Down Down’ campaign
Coles customers were in disarray this week when the supermarket giant filmed their latest spectacular ‘Down Down’ campaign at their Willowdale store, 50 minutes outside of Sydney.
The supermarket shared a number of behind-the-scenes clips on Tik-Tok, showing curious customers walking past the front of the store.
“When you stop by the local Coles but can’t get in because a commercial is being filmed,” Coles captioned the clip.
The cost-cutting ad appears to be the largest yet for the supermarket chain.
“Australia, we’re excited,” said a voiceover. “Here’s a good taste of things to come.”
A number of actors wearing Cole’s uniforms were seen through the freezer compartment throwing open the doors.
Meanwhile, an “employee” did backflips down an aisle, while in the fruit and vegetable department a gymnast swung on a trapeze.
Coles shoppers seemed pleased with the latest incarnation of the beloved ad.

“Marketing manager doing God’s work,” one Tik-Tok user wrote.
“I wish my Coles did cool things like that,” added another.
“When is that coming out, I want to see it,” yet another wrote.
Coles adverts, which have become an iconic part of Australian TV, feature an oversized red hand promoting cheap prices.

In the past, singer Casey Donovan was featured in the ad.
A few days ago, Coles announced a profit of $1.1 billion for the period 2022-2023.
The supermarket chain’s after-tax net profit rose 4.8 percent to $1.098 billion for the year ended June 25, compared to $1.048 billion based on total operations.

This was the best overall earnings result since 2019, before the pandemic and shortly after Coles split from Bunnings and Officeworks owner Wesfarmers five years ago.
Leah Weckert, the new CEO of the Coles Group, said high inflation would actually help the supermarket giant as more people choose to eat at home rather than eat out.
“Eating out, takeaway and coffee from the cafe are increasingly seen as a treat for a special occasion,” she told analysts on Tuesday.
