The revelation about the duel between the two comes after club great Sam Burgess was relieved of his duties as assistant coach on Wednesday.
Burgess – a club legend and 2014 premiership winner who has a close relationship with co-owner Russell Crowe – has reportedly clashed with head coach Jason Demetriou in recent weeks.
Burgess will also head to Warrington in the Super League next year as head coach.
Both Burgess and fellow assistant coach John Morris are reported to have expressed concern over Demetriou’s preferential treatment of Mitchell and pivot Cody Walker.

Mitchell’s application was the elephant in the room all season.
Some club figures have expressed concerns about his fitness and dedication after he missed ten weeks of the season with a calf injury.
