Coldplay launches $15,000 competition to find emerging musicians to open their massive concerts in Perth
Coldplay is giving a local Australian musical act the chance to open their two huge concerts in Perth.
The British band has launched a $15,000 competition that will seek Western Australian musicians to compete at Optus Stadium.
The league is looking for the next best talent from WA, promising $15,000 and performances in November for 120,000 fans over two nights.
The money comes in the form of a grant from the WA Government Contemporary Music Fund and goes towards recording, marketing and touring for the chosen band.
Coldplay personally selects the winner from a list of finalists compiled by industry experts.

The band announced that they will be bringing their Music of the Spheres World Tour to Perth in November for a special performance.
The British rock band posted a video on YouTube telling their 25 million subscribers that they will be performing at Optus Stadium.
The beloved group last performed in Australia in 2016 and the concerts will be their first in the WA capital since February 2009.
And given the band’s popularity, the performances certainly sold out all 60,000 seats.

The Perth shows are the band’s only concerts in Australia.
While the financial details of bringing the band to Perth are not being disclosed, Tourism Minister Roger Cook expressed his optimism that the concert would generate international tourist revenue to Western Australia.
Aussie fans from other states complained that the two Perth-only dates meant they would miss the band’s performance.
The Perth shows are the band’s only concerts in Australia
