Italian tourist living on the Gold Coast reveals three surprising Aussie habits she just doesn’t understand

A young traveler has shared the three things that shocked her about everyday Aussie life after moving abroad.

Sofia Saccone took to TikTok earlier this month to reveal how the usual habits — which include exercising early in the morning, vaping and going barefoot — were so different from her hometown of Lerici, Italy.

Titled ‘Australian things that would put an Italian in a coma’, Ms Saccone said the first thing she noticed after moving to Queensland’s Gold Coast was how early the locals were waking up.

“Because of my job, I used to go out at five in the morning,” she said.

“While I’m walking and eating my cookie, I swear I’ve seen plenty of people walking their dogs.”

Sofia Saccone (pictured) said common Aussie habits such as early morning exercise, vaping and going barefoot surprised her so much she almost ‘went into a coma’

Those jogging early in the morning weren’t just old people either, she added.

“Like young people in their twenties (running), and not alone!”

“They run in a group, so that means you have to organize these things, you know, with your friends — ‘Guys, what are we doing tomorrow? Just wake up, let’s wake up at 4am and go for a run,” she exclaimed.

‘Why at 4 o’clock? Why don’t you do it at night like normal people?”

The Italian tourist went on to say that smoking consumption in Australia was also different from abroad, with many resorting to vapes instead of cigarettes.

“Cigarettes are very expensive in Australia,” she added.

“We all know you’re a millionaire or you can’t afford (cigarettes).

“So when people come here, they just start vaping, as happened to me.”

Brandishing a dark blue vape, Ms Saccone said the electronic cigarettes would “put everyone in a coma.”

“They’re damn good. I love it… at least it will be a really, really sweet coma,” she joked.

The last thing the young traveler noticed was Aussies’ tendency to go barefoot in public.

“Everyone loves going out without shoes,” she said.

‘You don’t know why, I don’t know why – they just do.

“They want to go shopping (go shopping), you’ll find a lot of people without their shoes.” On the bus, no shoes,” Mrs. Saccone recalls.

“And they’re not crazy people — they’re just like regular people like me.

“It’s just normal for them.”
