Las Vegas woman Devyn Michaels, 45, is accused of chopping her boyfriend Jonathan Willette’s head off ‘after he tried to force her to perform sex act on him’

A Las Vegas woman has been charged with murder after she reportedly decapitated her boyfriend when she claimed he tried to force her to have sex with him.

Devyn Michaels, 45, was arrested on August 15 after the mother of her boyfriend Jonathan Willette, 46, discovered his decapitated body in his bed the week before.

When police entered the room on Aug. 7, police found the body was still “smoking” and smelled of chemicals, believed to be bleach and ammonia. An investigation was launched into the gruesome death and Michaels was brought in for questioning.

She initially denied the murder, claiming she had left his house the night of his death. She later admitted to hitting him on the head with a wooden stick after refusing his advances, reportedly saying she just wanted to hospitalize him.

She also alleged that Willette insulted her and claimed he would let his eldest child shower in front of him, according to an arrest report obtained by 8News Now. According to social media, it appears that Michaels may have been his ex-girlfriend, and Willette’s Facebook profile shows that he is engaged to someone else.

Willette’s decapitated body was discovered by his mother around 8:40 a.m. on August 7, and police rushed to the scene to find the remains in the 46-year-old’s bed.

His head was not immediately found and police say there was a chemical smell around the body, likely bleach and ammonia, which appear to have been used on the remains because “smoke” was coming from it, police said.

The victim’s mother told police the last time she saw her son was around 10 p.m. the night before, when he was with his girlfriend Michaels.

Around 1 a.m., she said she saw Michaels washing dishes downstairs in the kitchen. Michaels told her friend’s mother that Willette was drunk and gone to bed, and that they planned to leave early the next day to register their children at school.

The mother said she went back upstairs without seeing her son before being awakened by the sound of dogs barking at around 3 am. Finding this unusual, she decided to go back to bed and not investigate the commotion.

After waking up around 8 a.m., the victim’s mother said she locked the dogs outside her home and her son’s truck was parked outside. When she went looking for him, she made the nightmarish discovery of his decapitated body.

Police called Michaels for questioning and she told them that she was not living with Willette but was thinking about moving in together for their children.

Their relationship was complicated, however, as she lived with Willette’s son, who was not on good terms with his father and was not happy with the prospect of having to move out if he moved in, police said.

Michaels was also married and told investigators she did not have an intimate relationship with Willette, but only married for medical reasons.

According to a fundraiser set up to pay for his funeral expenses, Willette worked on the Las Vegas strip for more than 20 years. When the pandemic hit, he started a moving business and was often seen driving “his truck and trailer all over the Las Vegas Valley.”

Michaels initially denied she was in the house at the time of the murder, but is said to have later told police she hit him on the head after refusing to have sex with him.

When questioned about the gruesome death, she initially said she left Willette’s house after talking to his mother in the kitchen.

But after investigators reportedly found Willette’s wallet, keys, Social Security card and blood-covered phone in Michael’s home, she was given a lie detector test that allegedly showed she had a “significant response” to a question about her participation in his death.

Police say they then claimed Willette was abusive, including a claim that he would force his oldest child to shower in front of him. His alleged behavior escalated on the night of his death, she said, when he allegedly tried to force her to perform a sexual act on him.

She said that while he was lying face down and rubbing her back, she grabbed a wooden stick and hit him on the back of the head.

His arms and legs went limp from the force of the impact, but Michaels told police she only intended to hospitalize him long enough to figure out what to do with her children.

She never admitted to decapitating him and it is unclear if his head was found.

While Michaels claimed Willette was abusive, a woman listed as engaged to him on Facebook paid a heartbreaking tribute to him, saying her “body feels like it’s been ripped to shreds.”

“I am grateful to John for the past five years,” she continued. He was too good for this world. He tried his best to create a happy world. And enjoyed baking.’

Willette’s stepsister Valerie Rivera said in a fundraiser to pay his funeral expenses that he was “loved by so many people.”

“Johnathan had the personality and charisma that drew everyone to him,” the fundraiser read. “Working on the Las Vegas Strip for over 20 years, Johnathan has touched so many lives.

“Rest in peace Johnathan, we all love you.”
