Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has admitted the club is unlikely to sign a replacement for Harry Kane this summer.

Kane finally completed his move to Bayern Munich last week and immediately joined his teammates for training before making his debut in the German Super Cup against RB Leipzig hours later.

The departure of the England captain has left a glaring hole in Tottenham Hotspur’s attack, with Richarlison brought on as striker in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Brentford.

However, Postecoglou says the focus is on spending as his roster is “too big” and won’t sign players “for the sake of it”.

“We can’t just keep recruiting players when we have too big a squad like we have at the moment,” Postecoglou said ahead of Saturday’s clash with Manchester United.

“It affects your training, it affects players themselves, because at the end of the day they want to play and be involved. It’s not so much that one thing has to happen before the other, but our focus right now is to try to shorten the roster and then see where that takes us in terms of reinforcements.

“We are constantly evaluating that on a daily basis and there are still two weeks left in the period. I’m sure you’ll see some movement.’

When asked if a striker is the club’s priority, the Tottenham boss replied: “No, not necessarily. I know this is an obvious place for people to look because of our recent releases, but obviously we’ve been planning on that for a while.

“There are other areas we can strengthen. Defensive, midfield, up front. That’s not just getting players, they have to fit the profile we’re looking at.

Tottenham have strengthened themselves this summer with the signings of James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Manor Solomon, Alejo Veliz and Guglielmo Vicario.

The North London side also secured Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro on permanent deals from Juventus and Sporting Lisbon respectively.
