The Block: Why angry fans are shutting down this “disturbing” season of the show and not allowing their kids to watch it
The new season of The Block is only a week old, but fans are already complaining about the constant battle between the Blockheads.
And now a single mother has penned a lengthy protest denouncing Channel Nine’s hit renovation show as ‘toxic’ and ‘disturbing’.
Longtime viewer Evie Farrell says she doesn’t want to let her young daughter watch the show and has shut down the ratings because it says “more bullying than building.”
Farrell, a boutique travel agent who specializes in travel for single mothers, cited the show’s “negativity, drama and scandal” and focused on the feud lurking between the couple Steph and Gian and the other contestants.
Farrell says Blockheads Leah and Ash and Kristy and Brett mainly “focus” on Step, who she says seems emotionally fragile.

“It’s a mystery to me why The Block is promoting a toxic and disturbing bullying story as the main storyline for this season,” Farrell wrote in an article written for Mama Mia.
She added that it would be better to “show positive role models for the whole family to watch and support together.”
Farrell said fans really want to see “sympathetic couples” creating beautiful rooms and homes.
Capitalizing on the wave of goodwill surrounding Matildas’ courageous World Cup campaign as a positive role model for young women, Farrell suggested The Block’s “bullying” tone was out of step with the times.
It comes after fans berated Ash and Leah for their “annoying” response to the show’s latest “cheating scandal” on Sunday.
During the episode, Steph and Gian were seriously scolded after it was alleged that they broke the rules.
Despite finishing in last place, Steph enlisted her construction worker, Nick, to give their bathroom a boost.
But this did little to win over Ash and Leah, who turned their eyelids when they found out that Nick hadn’t officially been greenlighted or paid for his hard graft.
In a shocking move, Ash and Leah drew everyone into an unexpected body showdown – with Steph and Gian having no idea they were the hot topic.

In her article, Farrell zoomed in on the feud that seems to be brewing between the couple Steph and Gian – both pictured – and the other contestants
The meeting left Steph in tears and feeling like she and her partner had been slaughtered behind their backs.
And it seems viewers are on Team Steph, with many taking to Twitter to cover Ash and Leah’s antics.
“Why so aggressive and mean, boys?” a user has been fired. Another added, “The Block seems to be encouraging and promoting bullying this season, so wrong.”
Another fan lashed out at the show’s producers, saying “Yet more drama that could have been avoided if the producers had questioned the father and stopped him from even going on the scene.”
