St Mary’s alleged stabbing update: Shaun King remains in custody for two months following Drew Douglas’ death

  • Mother Drew Douglas died of stab wounds
  • Partner Shaun King, 35, charged with murder

A man has been jailed for two months after being accused of stabbing a mother of four to death in her home.

Police allege Shaun King, 35, killed his longtime partner Drew Douglas, 31, before 6:45am on Wednesday.

Officers arrived at a home in St Marys, western Sydney, to find the mother of four with stab wounds to the chest.

She was treated by paramedics, but died on the spot.

About 45 minutes later, Mr. King turned himself in to the police and was charged with the murder of his partner.

He was represented in local Campbelltown court on Thursday by his lawyer Kamal Hamka, who confirmed that he was in police custody.

He asked the court to postpone the case for eight weeks to give the prosecution time to present a brief piece of evidence.

The magistrate agreed to the request and ordered Mr King to appear before Penrith Court on 18 October.

He has not applied for bail, so he will remain in pre-trial detention for another two months.

Mrs Douglas had given birth to her fourth child just a month before she died in the home she shared with her alleged killer.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, including a triple-0 call from her partner just hours before he allegedly stabbed her multiple times.

Mr King telephoned police at 8.40pm on Tuesday evening with concerns about his well-being, but NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Leanne McCusker confirmed that police had not followed up.

The research will be subject to an independent review.
