“This incident is extremely difficult for the family, our staff and the officers involved.”

Fontana police reportedly went to the golf course after a call of shots fired.

There would have been a dispute in the house of the Diaz family, during which shots would have been fired KTLA.

“They arrived and confronted the armed person,” Fontana police spokesman Daniel Romero said CBS LA.

Fontana police did not immediately respond to requests from The Associated Press for more information, but NBC4 reported that Romero said Diaz pointed a gun at officers and they fired.

The suspect has been hit. He went down, he was treated at the scene by (paramedics) and transported to a local hospital in unknown condition,” Romero said.

Diaz later died of his injuries in hospital.

Video posted online of the incident is said to show the moment officers shot Diaz. The footage showed several officers approaching Diaz as he lay on the ground. When he turned, smoke billowed from their guns and he collapsed.

NBC4 reported one resident, Myesha Dowe, said the deputy lived in one of the homes around the golf course and was a good neighbor and that the shooting was sudden.

“He was in the house arguing or talking to someone inside, shot at the wall and then left, ran onto the golf course and just started shooting, shooting everything, scaring the golfers, shooting at the police,” she said.

‘It was bad. It seems that mental health is real. He lost his lead and just started shooting things around. This is very shocking to me.’

Dowe told the station she thought she heard fireworks, but then she began receiving messages from friends saying they heard shots and saw their neighbor armed and visibly distressed.
