Destiny 2 director promises free PvP map pack after recent backlash
Lot 2‘s game director is promising a free PvP map next year, after the backlash to the recent State of the Game post.
Earlier this month, Bungie shared a State of the Game blog post about the Lot 2 complaints from communities, stating that the studio lacked the resources to release more than one PvP map per calendar year. The post was met with backlash from the community as Bungie is a huge studio owned by Sony.
Now, Lot 2 game director Joe Blackburn released an apology video on Twitterrespond to the backlash and address player concerns (via PC gamer).
Blackburn opened up by admitting that the State of the Game post “wasn’t up to our standards” for what players expect as communication.

“It didn’t provide the high-level vision that we normally provide,” he said. “Honestly, some of us were working with our heads down The final shape and were unable to give it the care and love we normally put into it… And that’s no one’s fault but mine.
The game director went on to share an overview of what the team plans to move forward with Lot 2including PvP, armor, the improved communication strategy and the upcoming Gamescom 2023 reveal of The final shape extension.
One of the most notable things Blackburn talked about was PvP maps and has promised that a free PvP map pack will be released next year, making the original comment in the blog post that he didn’t have the resources to do so, in fact is reversed.
He also shared that Bungie will be adding more modes to the game’s core playlists and stuff Lot 2 now has a dedicated PvP team, with the developers acting as a “PvP strike team” to focus on that aspect of the game.
“One of the most exciting parts of these attack teams is that we build them based on community feedback,” he explained. “So these attack teams are built from the ground up to look at, ‘What are the pain points that most affect our community?’ So this whole list will build and burn down from, “Hey, these are the big issues the PvP community is looking at Lot 2.”
The community seems to have responded good for Blackburn’s video, with some reposting the video with positive feedback and leaving supportive comments.
For now, Bungie is preparing for the upcoming reveal of The final shapewhat the final DLC will be for The Light and Dark Saga.
