Baltimore Ravens and Washington Commanders stars landed punches and body slams as a joint practice session between the two NFL teams turned sour on Tuesday.

The Ravens and Commanders would put each other to the test in a friendly practice session a week before going head-to-head in the preseason.

But what happened on the day was anything but friendly, with images of WMAR reporter Shawn Stepner shows both sets of players engaged in a bad-tempered skirmish at the end of a play.

On that play, Ravens wide receiver Tylan Wallace took a pass while under pressure from Commanders cornerback Emmanuel Forbes, who kept trying to retrieve the ball despite Wallace stalling.

As Forbes poked and prodded him, Wallace lunged with the first punch before the Washington star retaliated with one of his own.

Their respective teammates immediately rushed to unleash a near brawl during the practice session as more punches were fired and certain players were even thrown to the floor in the fallout.

Raven’s tight end Mark Andrews appeared to body-slap Commanders cornerback Danny Johnson during the skirmish, before both coaches stepped in to end the altercation.

“Joint workouts are always a challenge,” Baltimore coach John Harbaugh said. “You have two teams here and there is a lot of pride. I thought it was a very good exercise.

‘We’ve had a few metabolisms that you don’t want to see, but it’s not really unexpected. I thought they were dealt with fairly quickly.’

His counterpart, Ron Rivera, agreed with that view, saying the short fight would only have been a problem if it had escalated further.

“(Harbaugh) talked to their guys, I talked to our guys and they got back to it,” Washington’s coach said. “What we’re trying to prevent is a big fight that we can’t stop.

“That wouldn’t make sense, and that would be unforgivable. We’re trying to temper it.’

It was an emotional 24 hours for the Ravens after the news that former running back Alex Collins was killed in a motorcycle accident at the age of 28.

The tragic accident occurred on Sunday night, when Collins was riding a 2004 Suzuki GSX-R600K and collided with a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban SUV. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Ravens said in a statement Monday night: “It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of Alex Collins. Always quick to greet everyone with a smile, he was a genuinely nice person who carried a special joy and passion with him everywhere he went.

“May Alex always be remembered for the light and love he brought so many people into his life.”
