Teenager identified as stabbing victim at Corindi Beach in NSW as family make heartbreaking plea

The teenager who died Sunday when he was reportedly fatally stabbed in Corindi Beach on the north coast of NSW has been identified as 16-year-old Trey Johnston Piggott.

The family has launched a GoFundMe asking for donations from the community to cover funeral expenses to help them through their grief.

“Trey was a beautiful, smart, intelligent boy who had his whole life ahead of him and all we have now are memories,” his aunt Billee-jo wrote on the fundraising page.

“Trey was well known in our community and well loved by so many.”

The family hopes to raise $15,000.

“At this difficult time, we try to stand together as a family to support each other, but especially our sister Rikki and Trey’s siblings during this traumatic time.”

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder, assault leading to death and possession of illegal drugs.

Emergency services were called shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday to Pacific Street near Corindi Beach, 16 miles (26 km) north of Coffs Harbour.

Trey was reportedly treated at the scene by paramedics for stab wounds to his thigh before being rushed to the Coffs Harbor Health Campus. However, he died in hospital shortly afterwards.

At a press conference Monday afternoon, Acting Superintendent Matthew French said that despite an extensive search, officers have not yet recovered the alleged weapon, which police believe is a knife.

He said the boy suffered an injury to the upper leg and there was “considerable loss of blood.”

An eyewitness told The Daily Telegraph that he heard a ‘loud bang’ before going out to search a boy lying on the road in front of his house of 12 years.

“The bang was a car door and it was someone who must have stopped to help,” he said.

“There were a lot of people trying to help and the little guy just lay there moaning.”

“A lot of young people cross that block because it’s a shortcut to some hiking trails and they can go that way to get to the houses on the other side,” he said.

Daily Mail Australia understands that both men knew each other and attended nearby Woolgoolga High School.

“It was two young guys who both went to Woolgoolga,” revealed a local who asked not to be named.

“The whole community is shocked by this incident – it’s usually a quiet place to live.”

Coffs Clarence Police Commander said the incident would have a “ripple effect” on the close-knit community of Corindi Beach.

Woolgoolga High School was contacted for comment.
