Matildas fans get extra live sites to watch the Aussies’ World Cup semi-final against England – see if any of them are near you

Football fans can gather at multiple locations across the country to soak up the atmosphere during the semi-final between the Matildas and England.

The highly anticipated match takes place in Sydney at 8pm on Wednesday, hosted at Stadium Australia, and is expected to draw just under 80,000 people.

For those not lucky enough to get a ticket to the match, there are plenty of venues to watch the match surrounded by other fans.

NSW Premier Chris Minns has announced that the Western Sydney Stadium in Parramatta and the Sydney Football Stadium in Moore Park will be opened to the public, allowing thousands of Australians to watch the game together.

Those stadiums complement the FIFA Fan Festival held at Tumbalong Park in Darling Harbour, where more than 202,000 spectators have enjoyed the matches so far.

Minns said he wanted to make sure “as many families as possible” could watch the blockbuster event with other Australians.

‘The Matildas run at this FIFA World Cup has swept the country; their quarter-final win was the most highly regarded televised event since Cathy Freeman’s gold medal in the 400m at the Sydney Olympics,” said NSW Premier Chris Minns.

“We are opening more big screens at Western Sydney Stadium and Sydney Football Stadium – we want to give NSW every chance to break that viewing record.

Sydney isn’t the only capital city to set up live sites so Australians can come together to support the national sides, with Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth all having their own FIFA Fan Festivals or similar setups.

For those trying to find tickets for the actual match, it can be a tough question with limited resale options available on the official FIFA site before the match, while pre-match hospitality packages are sold out.

On Monday afternoon, a ticket for one child was on sale at the resale.

Tickets are on sale for Tuesday’s semi-final between Sweden and Spain with regular tickets priced at between $60-110 each, while the World Cup Grand Final has yet to go on sale.
