Qantas shows off support for ‘The Voice’ with decaled planes calling on Aussies to vote YES
Qantas has unveiled aircraft bearing decals showing the airline’s support for the indigenous vote to parliament.
The new livery features the ‘yes23’ logo, along with the message ‘Qantas is proud to support Voice to Parliament’.
The airline shared a photo of the new livery on social media before showing off three freshly decked-out aircraft at an official launch party attended by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Sydney on Monday morning.
Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce said support for The Voice continues the flag carrier’s long-term commitment to reconciliation, along with the idea of a ‘fair go’
It is great to see so much support from Parliament in the Chamber. Qantas was founded in the 1920s thanks to the First Nations. They helped us discover landing sites. We wouldn’t be here without them,” Joyce said at the launch.
Qantas has unveiled its latest pledge of public support for the indigenous vote to parliament
Qantas was one of the first companies to have a reconciliation action plan. Internships, trainee programs to provide First Nations people with quality jobs, and a program that works with First Nations suppliers.
“We are here today to affirm and demonstrate our support for an indigenous voice in parliament.”
“We’re literally flying the flag so that every major city, every major city, gets to see this message, which is fantastic.”
AFL legend Adam Goodes rarely appeared in public to show his support for The Voice.
He posed for photos and gleefully amongst airline staff and Yes campaigners before taking part in a panel discussion.
The launch was another opportunity for the Prime Minister to make an impassioned plea for Australians to vote yes when the referendum is held later in the year.
“The spirit of Australia is saying yes, and it is saying yes because this will help reconciliation in a practical way,” Albanese said.
The Voice is a proposed advisory body that would make recommendations to the federal government and parliament on laws and policies that affect Indigenous people.
A referendum on The Voice will be held between October and December of this year.
