House fire in Casula: Mother rescues family from burning home as it went up in flames in southwest Sydney
- A fire completely destroyed the inside of a Casula house
- Mother Sandy Al-Qhameesi got her family out of the house
A mother saved her family from a devastating house fire by waking them up just after the fire broke out in her children’s bedroom.
Sandy Al-Qhameesi was the first to be notified of a fire that broke out at her home in Casula in southwest Sydney just before 4am on Saturday morning.
The mother of four immediately alerted all six family members inside the property and forced them out as the flames took over.
Security footage shows two children and their grandmother escaping the burning wreckage, followed by the other two children of Ms Al-Qhameesi and her husband.
Firefighters arrived on scene to extinguish the inferno that had gotten out of hand.

It only took a few minutes for the interior of the house to be completely demolished.
The fire is believed to have been started by a faulty heater in the children’s room.
Three of Mrs. Al-Qhameesi’s children were sleeping on three separate beds next to the heater at the time.
Ms. Al-Qhameesi explained that the fire quickly spread through the room after lingering on each of the beds.
Although she tragically had to watch her home go up in flames, she said she was just thankful that her family was safe and responsible.
“If we cry (or) if we smile… (the house) is gone, it’s done, we have to be sure to keep going,” she shared 9News.

The family tried to salvage what they could from the burned-out house hours after firefighters managed to put out the blaze.
They only managed to keep their passports, medical records and a few other items.
No one was injured by the fire.
