Son Heung-min has been appointed as the new captain of Tottenham after the departure of Harry Kane.
New £40 million signing James Maddison and defender Christian Romero will serve as vice-captains, according to the agency The athletic.
Boss Ange Postecoglou moved quickly to anoint a new skipper following Harry Kane’s £100 million departure to Bayern Munich earlier today.
The decision was said to have been well received by the Tottenham side and the trio were seen as the right kind of characters to lead the team into a new era.
Son, 31, has a wealth of captaincy experience for his country, of whom he has 111 caps.
Min has been with the club since 2015 and is a popular member of the Tottenham Hotspur squad
The report states that while the squad is well aware that they will miss Kane, there is general excitement over the prospects of taking on the challenge of filling his void rather than relying too much on one player.
Kane left Tottenham early on Saturday for Bayern Munich for £100 million and is expected to make his debut for the German champions tonight.
The Tottenham record goalscorer left the club with a heavy heart, but the 30-year-old also insisted it was the right time.
“Of course there are a lot of emotions going through me right now. Sad to leave the club where I spent almost 20 years of my life.
“From an 11 year old boy to a 30 year old man now there have been so many beautiful moments and special memories, memories that I will cherish forever.
“From the moment I played, I have been one of you and have given everything I could to make you proud and give you as many special moments and memories as possible that will hopefully last forever.
“So I felt like now was the time to leave, I didn’t want to go into the season with a lot of unresolved future talks. I think it’s important for the new manager and players to focus on trying to get Tottenham back to the top of the table and fight for trophies,” said Kane.
“I wish Ange (Postecoglou) and all the guys the best of luck, honestly I’m looking at it now from the point of view of the fans and really hope the team can be successful.
