Australian country music star Lawrie Minson erupted at Qantas baggage handlers after the metal case containing his custom-made Maton guitar was smashed.

Minson shared photos and videos of the clumsily repaired case that Qantas returned to him after flying from Sydney to Darwin on Thursday night.

Handlers wrapped the aluminum case in a few pieces of orange tape after it was almost completely crushed in transit.

The angry musician wrote that he would file a complaint with Qantas after staff failed to explain the damage.

Some fans speculated that the case had been ‘run over’ on its way to Darwin.

Minson was relieved that his custom-made Maton guitar, worth thousands of dollars, survived the flight (pictured, Minson with his Maton after the flight)

‘It’s 3am and I’ve just arrived in Darwin. I’m working with the incredible (Indigenous musician) Yirrmal this weekend,” Minson wrote on social media.

“Qantas baggage handlers have done their very best during this trip. They have reached a new personal low point in my 40+ year tour of this great country.

“I was told to go online and complain, so that’s what I do!”

Miraculously, the Maton, worth thousands of dollars, was completely unharmed.

“Cases can be changed, but this guitar was built specifically for me to play slide,” continued Minson.

“It was a great relief to find it intact when I opened what was left of the road case.”

In a video, Minson described the entire incident as “absolutely ridiculous.”

“That was a good road complaint – the idea of road panniers is that they can take whatever these idiots throw at them,” he said.

Hundreds of shocked fans demanded an explanation from Qantas.

“That’s bloody awful, absolutely no respect for other people’s property. Qantas, you are getting worse and worse,” one person wrote.

Holy shit. Lawrie who was run over. Compression in a cargo hull can’t do that,” said another.

“Those cases are tough. The baggage handlers really wanted to destroy your bag,” a third wrote.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Qantas for comment.
