As Chelsea continue to look to sign another midfielder, MailSport can now reveal why they have watered down their hunt for Leeds United star Tyler Adams.
According to a source, The Blues were concerned that Adams’ recovery from a hamstring injury would take longer than expected.
The source says tests carried out by Chelsea showed the American star’s recovery could take another four months – leading to the club’s decision to pull out.
Adams suffered the injury towards the end of the previous season, which inevitably ended with Leeds United’s relegation.
The captain of the United States men’s national team went down during a training session prior to a March 18 clash with Wolves.

The American midfielder moved to West Yorkshire last season but has a $25 million release clause that came into effect due to Leeds United’s relegation from the Premier League to the Championship.
The injury forced the USMNT midfielder to undergo surgery and he has not appeared for club or country since.
Adams completed his move from RB Leipzig to Leeds last season, making 26 appearances for the club.
That included a stint under fellow American and former manager Jesse Marsch – who was sacked in the middle of the season.
The American midfielder has a reported release clause of around $25 million due to Leeds’ relegation to the Championship.
Adams is said to be reluctant to play in the second division, despite Leeds being keen to build a team around him.
The New Yorker has made 210 appearances in top-flight football with Leeds, Leipzig and the New York Red Bulls – scoring five goals in that span.
