Former Washington Commanders cornerback Fred Smoot was arrested in Virginia and booked for breach of support obligation, according to multiple reports.
The 2001 second-round draft pick has run afoul of the law several times over the years, including in 2019 when he was arrested for failing to appear in court for minor traffic violations and in 2013 when he served six years’ probation. months after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated.
Smoot was arrested and charged with domestic violence, but he was eventually cleared of all charges in 2015.
During his nine-year career, Smoot spent two separate stints with the Washington Redskins: during the 2001–2004 seasons and again from 2007 through 2009.
He also spent two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings in 2005 and 2006.

During his time in Minnesota, Smoot was involved in the “Love Boat” incident when he and several other teammates allegedly hired prostitutes for a sex party on a boat.
After allegations of lewd conduct and disorderly conduct on the boat, Smoot eventually pleaded guilty to felony charges.
During his playing career, Smoot recorded 21 interceptions and 140 tackles in 129 games.
