The patties are square to emphasize that “Wendy’s doesn’t cut corners” in the kitchen.

The first Wendy’s opened in Ohio in 1969 after founder Dave Thomas decided he wanted to make a “better burger.”

On Thursday, Wendy’s announced it is officially going Down Under with 200 restaurants to open over the next ten years.

The chain has signed a franchise agreement with Flynn Restaurant Group, with the first stores opening in 2025.

“Australia is a strategic market for long-term growth for Wendy’s. Flynn Restaurant Group has incredible experience in the restaurant space and we are excited to expand our relationship with them,” she said.

The expansion is said to require around 10,000 employees.

It differs from McDonald’s and Hungry Jack’s by having a strict made-to-order policy and not keeping food warm using heat lamps.

Flynn’s Restaurant Group owns other popular American fast food chains such as Applebee’s, Taco Bell, Panera, Arby’s and Pizza Hut.

The group is the world’s largest restaurant franchise operator and took over Australia’s Pizza Hut franchises in June this year.

Wendy’s has recently expanded into the UK and Ireland and can be found in Europe, Asia and the United States.

It is not the first time Wendy’s has launched in Australia with a store opening in Melbourne in 1982.

A total of eleven stores were opened, but three years later the company collapsed with $8 million in debt.

Questions have also been raised about Wendy’s partnering in Australia with local company Wendy’s Milk Bar.

“There can’t be two Wendys,” says Dean Tully, owner of the Aussie Wendy’s shop in Whyalla, South Australia, which specializes in ice cream.

Ms Pringle said there are no legal concerns about the functioning of either company and that they ‘both can exist in the marketplace’.
