Rolling Stones legends Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are honored with bronze statues in their hometown of Dartford

Rolling Stones legends Mick Jagger and Keith Richards have been honored with bronze statues in their hometown.

The two rock’n’roll stars met as teenagers in Dartford, Kent, in 1961 and formed the Rolling Stones the following year.

They had both attended Wentworth Primary School, but attended different secondary schools.

The Stones lasted for over 60 years and became one of the most successful bands in history.

The footage, commissioned by Dartford City Council, shows Jagger holding a microphone as Richards bows his head over his ‘Micawber’ Telecaster guitar.

The bronze statues, called The Glimmer Twins, were created by Amy Goodman, a fan of the band.

Her previous public artworks include images of Florence Nightingale and Sir Stirling Moss.

Goodman, listening to the band’s music while shooting the footage, decided to portray Jagger and Richards as they were in the 1980s.

She said she was a “nerve wreck” and there was “a lot of pressure because they are such icons” as the work took about 10 months to complete.

Richards’ daughter Angela and granddaughter Ava attended the unveiling ceremony of the statues in One Bell Corner on Wednesday.

Dartford City Council leader Jeremy Kite said: ‘In terms of culture and music, you don’t get much more influence than the Rolling Stones.

“Their music has changed the face of popular music and these guys from Dartford are now two of the most recognizable and loved people in the world.”

Jagger was knighted in 2003 for services to popular music.

Last month, Jagger enjoyed a lavish party to celebrate his 80th birthday with a very star-studded guest list.

The Rolling Stones frontman appeared to be having the time of his life as he stepped out of a Chelsea nightclub in the early hours of the morning.

Richards will turn 80 in December, while Charlie Watts, another founding member of the band, passed away in August 2021 at the age of 80.

The band played 14 gigs in Europe last year and a new Rolling Stones album will be released this year.
