Coles supermarket customer raises questions about ‘diced wallaby’ for sale: ‘That just doesn’t work for me’

A Coles shopper was left furious after finding animal meat products in a vegan section of the store.
While browsing the vegetable section to do her shopping, she came across wallaby meats stored in the same area, including “wallaby cubes,” “wallaby shanks,” and “wallaby sausages.”
The woman shared a photo on social media as she let loose about the ordeal.
“I was looking for a plant burger in Coles’ plant food department,” she wrote.
“I saw the bloodied wallaby parts just before I picked up a package.”
The customer said she would not shop at any Coles store until the meat was removed from the department.
“I’m not buying from that or any other Coles until they know kangaroos and wallabies aren’t plants,” she said.
“That just doesn’t work for me.”
The woman argued for a separate room for plant-based meat.

A spokesperson for Coles told Daily Mail Australia that wallaby meat is only sold in some stores.
‘Coles has been selling wallaby meat in a variety of products for a number of years. Wallaby products are available in selected Victorian and Tasmanian stores,” they said.
Coles said it stores plant-based products in refrigerated sections in different areas of its stores, depending on space availability.

The supermarket giant said plant-based meat products are offered for those who don’t want to eat regular meat, but still want to enjoy meat products that are similar.
It is believed that the wallaby meat comes from Tasmanian meat producers Lenah Game Meats.
According to the company’s website, the wallaby cuts are “popular with diners from Cairns to Hobart.”
The company prides itself on having the meat on the menus of “award-winning hotels and resorts across the country.”
