  • She was reportedly told her French bulldog could only fly in a crate, forcing her to ditch the pooch at short-term parking

A woman is being charged with heartlessly abandoning her dog at an airport after being told she couldn’t take the pet on board without a crate.

The dog was found “unattended in a stroller” near short-term parking at Pittsburgh International Airport around 5:30 a.m. Friday, according to the Allagheny County Police Department.

Agents were able to track down the owner via a microchip in the French bulldog’s neck, but said their attempts to contact her were unsuccessful.

Thankfully, the seven-year-old dog was in good health after the ordeal and was taken to a local animal shelter, where he now hopes to find a new, friendlier home.

But while everyone agreed that the dog was better off without her, the same couldn’t be said for the avid flier, as police say the Pennsylvania state dog guard is expected to press charges for abandonment.

The woman made the embarrassing decision to leave the dog at the airport after failing to convince airline staff that it was an emotional support animal, Sgt. told Jason Donaldson WTAE TV.

He added that the woman then went on with her vacation and flew to a resort without a dog, though he did not reveal where she was flying to.

“We were able to determine that the owner of the dog had attempted to fly the dog this morning and was denied boarding due to having an unsuitable cargo container,” he added.

Police said they now expect the state dog guard to file a report of animal abandonment, which carries a maximum fine of up to $1,000.

The pup was taken to the local animal shelter Animal Friends, which said in a statement after they picked up the dog: “Animal Friends” Humane Society police officers are continuing an investigation into this matter and looking into possible charges.

“The dog remains on hold and Animal Friends is pleased to provide the dog with necessary treatment and supportive care until this matter is resolved.”

It comes months after a New Jersey man was charged with several felonies, including neglect and animal abandonment, after he tied up his dog outside an Iowa airport so he could catch a flight home.

Bigsen Charles, 24, claims he didn’t know he needed a kennel to transport his puppy on the plane, and made the same decision as the woman in Pittsburgh last week when he, too, left the pup outside the airport and made his journey alone instead of.

When airport officials saw the abandoned dog, they immediately contacted the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, leading to adorable footage of the dog beaming as he played with staff at the shelter.

Charles admitted to DailyMail.com at the time that he “knows he made the wrong decision.”
