Two other nurses were also affected, but did not require further medical attention.

Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry said there was an ‘odor or fume which may have caused illness or dizziness’.

The situation is stable, Mr Dewberry added.

A small section of the hospital is isolated as firefighters work to flush a substance believed to be causing irritation.

The hospital’s emergency department is operating normally.
