The Matildas broke the ratings record books with their 2-0 win over Denmark on Monday night, beating the State of Origin and both the NRL and AFL grand finals.
More than 3.5 million people watched the record-breaking Women’s World Cup blockbuster on Channel 7 – with 3.18 million viewers on TV and 385,000 on the streaming service 7Plus.
It was the highest audience for any TV show this year, also surpassing the footy codes and major reality TV shows.
Seven’s coverage of the tournament has now reached a whopping 9.25 million on TV and 1.67 million on 7Plus.
The Aussie squad’s next match on Saturday night could well topple Ash Barty’s monster scores as she won the 2022 Australian Open.

Some 3.6 million viewers stayed up last year to watch Barty beat American Danielle Collins to become the first Aussie to win the Grand Slam in nearly 50 years.
The Matildas stormed into the quarter-finals of the Women’s World Cup and welcomed Sam Kerr in style with their victory over the Scandinavians.
Caitlin Foord’s goal in the 29th minute, brilliantly shot down by Mary Fowler, sent the Matildas on their way before Hayley Raso added a second in the 70th minute in front of 75,784 screaming fans at Sydney’s Stadium Australia.
After originally being named on the bench as coach Tony Gustavsson stuck with an unchanged starting line-up, Kerr took the field to a standing ovation in the 80th minute.
The Matildas now face the winner of the France – Morocco match
It was her first minutes of the tournament, having overcome a calf injury suffered on the eve of Australia’s opening match.
“I was actually going to play the last game, but the girls smashed it so they didn’t need me, and then I thought we might as well just let it rest,” she told Channel 7.
“Even today there was a chance I wouldn’t play if the girls crushed that, but we thought it was best for me and the team (to show up).
‘My arrival was a great relief after three weeks.’
Australia will next play against France or Morocco, who face each other in Adelaide on Tuesday night, and at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.
