The situation has left many hard-working migrants regretting their decision to move Down Under, and some now say they would rather have gone to Canada, where parent visas are available. are processed much faster.

A skilled migrant who moved to Australia from the US said the long wait in visa processing times made it more difficult for his parents to visit him.
Engineer Nitin Parwal, who lives in Adelaide, said SBS Hindi he wished he had known visa options elsewhere before moving to Australia.
“Now it is not possible for me to move to the US or Canada as I have already worked hard here and settled myself in Australia,” said Parwal.
“By making the visa process more difficult for parents, Australia is showing that it is once again a heartless nation, just as it was during the Covid lockdown.”

According to the website of the Ministry of the Interior, a Contributing parent visa takes at least 12 years to process.
The visa allows parents of migrants who are Australian citizens or permanent residents to freely visit their children.
Those applying for a parent visa (subclass 103) may have to wait 29 years for their visa to be processed.

Parwal urged fellow migrants who are their parents’ primary caregivers to move to Canada instead.
Canada’s processing time for temporary visas for parents and grandparents can be as short as eight weeks Super Visa Scheme.
The program also allows visiting parents to stay in the country for two years.
