- Waleed Aly was referring to Lisa Wilkinson in disguise
Waleed Aly appears to have taken a subtle swipe at ex-colleague Lisa Wilkinson as he weighed in on the troubling allegations against pop star Lizzo.
The Project host pleaded for caution on Monday’s show as the American singer is accused of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment by three former backup dancers. Lizzo has denied the allegations.
“You have to be careful now. This is the lesson we refuse to learn,’ Aly said.
Allegations have been made and we jump in and start commenting and later a court makes a decision and we say, ‘Oh, what do we do now?
“Maybe we’d be better off not making that mistake.”

Last year, ex-project host Wilkinson sparked controversy by making comments during her Logies speech in which she appeared to be siding with Brittany Higgins — even though Bruce Lehrmann’s trial was only days away at the time.
Ms Higgins first made the allegations against Mr Lehrmann on The Project in February 2021 in a sit-down interview with Wilkinson.
The TV presenter received a silver Logie for the segment, which delved into the culture of those working within Parliament House, but she was widely criticized in the wake of the speech.
Mr. Lehrmann’s defense lawyers attempted to file for permanent residency, meaning they wanted to drop the case altogether, on the assumption that Wilkinson’s televised speech could prejudice a jury against Mr. Lehrmann.
Wilkinson was heavily criticized for her June 2022 Logies acceptance speech in which she appeared to side with Ms Higgins (pictured together)

However, the application for residence was unsuccessful and temporary residence was granted – meaning the process was moved from June to October 2022.
Mr Lehrmann went on trial in the ACT High Court after pleading not guilty to sexually assaulting Ms Higgins, but the trial was dropped due to juror misconduct.
A new trial was dropped after the charges were later dropped by the Director of Public Prosecutions over concerns about Ms Higgins’ mental health.
Mr Lehrmann has always denied the allegations.
