  • The Hammers have yet to sign a player this transfer window as frustrations mount
  • Wages worth £148,000 per week have already been agreed with the player
  • Ginaluca Scamacca, meanwhile, is on his way to leave the club, ready to join Atalanta

West Ham is in talks with Ajax about a transfer from Edson Alvarez.

Ajax are looking for more than their £30 million opening bid, but the Hammers are finally looking to land their first signing of the summer.

The 25-year-old is on holiday in his native Mexico, but is ready to fly to London for a medical once a fee has been agreed.

His representatives have already agreed a five-year contract worth a reported £148,000 a week.

Alvarez, who has been in the spotlight from Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund, is poised to become David Moyes’ first signing of the summer.

West Ham manager David Moyes is frustrated with the club’s lack of revenue

Behind the scenes at West Ham, frustration has grown with David Moyes’ job on the line, despite the Scot handing the club their first trophy since 1980 last season.

Moyes is upset about a lack of revenue and feels the opportunity to build on last year’s European success helped by the sale of Declan Rice for £105 million has been squandered.

Pursuits of Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire, among others, have failed and the club has yet to strengthen for the third consecutive year of European football.

But they are hopeful that a deal will be made for Alvarez, where personal conditions are no problem and Ajax is open to doing business.

Striker Gianluca Scamacca, meanwhile, is about to join Atalanta after a year at the club.

He found goals difficult to score, netting just eight times in 27 appearances as he struggled to achieve consistency in his first – and now only – year at the club.

A deal worth £27.6m – a guaranteed £22.5m and £5.1m in add-ons – has been agreed between West Ham and Atalanta with personal terms expected to be no problem and a deal that will be completed soon.

Scamacca will be the third West Ham player to leave the club this summer, with Rice moving to Arsenal in a £105 million deal and Manuel Lanzini joining River Plate on a free transfer.
