Micky van de Ven sat in the stands at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium as he watched his soon-to-be new team-mate shine in a pre-season victory.

The Dutchman will be Ange Postecoglou’s latest signing before joining Tottenham from Wolfsburg on a five-year contract.

Van de Ven will undergo a medical in London on Monday after the two clubs agreed a £43 million fee for the central defender but wanted to soak up the atmosphere of his new surroundings first.

He stood up and clapped for his soon-to-be Spurs colleagues as they emerged from the tunnel in front of more than 50,000 supporters.

Eagle-eyed home fans spotted their newest signing before kickoff, and he was eager to interact with members of the public approaching the executive box.

Van de Ven shook hands with supporters as they welcomed him to what will be the defender’s new home for the next five years, should he complete the full long-term contract on offer.

Spurs have already strengthened their attacking areas with the signings of James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, Manor Solomon and securing the final transfer of Dejan Kulusevski, but need defensive additions.
