A new mother has lashed out at her family for criticizing the ‘unequal’ names she has given her twin daughters.

The anonymous parent, from the UK, shared her dilemma on Reddit’s ‘Beyond the Bump’ forum shortly after welcoming her twins.

The woman – who is only 17 – said her grandmother made a series of cruel remarks after hearing the names.

She wrote, “My twin girls are Juno Tamsin and Freya Joy.

“According to my narcissistic asshole granny, Freya’s name is ‘so much prettier’ and Juno will be ‘so jealous.'”

The new parents have named her twins Freya Joy and Juno Tamsin, but her grandmother argued that the names are ‘unequal’

However, the new mom says she was particularly bothered by what her grandmother said next.

The woman continued, “She said that too, and this is a WORD FOR WORD QUOTE, ‘Names like that is all you can expect when babies have babies.'”

After the disturbing interaction with her grandparent, the new mother turned to the Reddit forum to see if others agreed with what had been said about her children’s names.

She added, “Now correct me if I’m wrong, but while their names may not be really common, I don’t think they’re ridiculous at all.

“It’s not like they’re called Juenough and Freiyah or Seaweed and Fishfood. They are just normal, strong, beautiful, unusual names.’

The mother concluded the post by saying, “WHY AND HOW do people think it’s acceptable to say things like this?”

The post garnered hundreds of responses from other members of the forum — with the vast majority siding with the new parent rather than the grandmother.

One of them replied: ‘They are beautiful names and I think they go very well together. They are both goddesses, both two syllables, both trendy. I think you did well.’

Another countered the grandmother’s argument, adding, “Inequitable would be like calling one Moonstone and the other Todd.”

They are not dissimilar because they come from different pantheons. They’re great names.’

A third said: ‘Juno and Freya are both beautiful! I actually like Juno better, but that’s a matter of personal taste! Ignore the sound.

“Do your best to be a good mother, and that’s enough.”

Meanwhile, a fourth quipped, “I suggest telling grandma you’ve considered her feedback and changed their names to seaweed and fish food!”

“That gives her something to complain about.”

In addition, another argued, “Honey, there is no winning here. Your grandma wanted something to lash out at, so she grabbed onto the names.

“If it wasn’t the names, it was how you dressed them or something else.

“You’re 17 with babies so you’re wrong in her eyes, nothing you do will be good enough.” If you manage to let go of the impossible expectations of her (or anyone else), you’ll be so much happier.”
