Birmingham played the first game of the new season in the English Championship – the second tier of English football – starting with a 1-1 draw at Welsh team Swansea.

Brady, who announced his investment on Thursday, his 46th birthday, is currently on vacation in Africa and shared a video of himself with lions and tigers in the wild earlier Saturday.

But a few hours later, attention was firmly on Birmingham. After sharing the team line-up on his Instagram story, he tweeted ‘Way to finish!!!’ at Siriki Dembele, who scored just before half-time for Birmingham to take the lead.

Swansea eventually ruined the party, with Jerry Yates leveling the scores with a goal in the 76th minute.

Brady has been on safari for the past few days and this week shared a photo of his daughter Vivienne. who is with him for his birthday week.

He posted a video of lions and tigers resting by his jeep on Saturday morning, captioning it: “Excuse me, can you move a little.”

In another, he said, “Think I’m a little too close for comfort” as a lion walked nearby.

Earlier in the week, he shared a selfie with elephants in the background as he ate his lunch.

The seven-time Super Bowl winner admitted he has a lot to learn about other football when his shocked Birmingham announcement was made this week.

Brady said: ‘Birmingham City are an iconic club with so much history and passion and to be part of the Blues is a real honor for me.

“BCFC is built on teamwork and determination and I am delighted to be working with the board, management and players to make our Second City club second to none.

“I’ve been part of some great teams in my time and I’m looking forward to applying my perspective to create the same success here in Birmingham.

‘You may be wondering, ‘what do you know about English football, Tom?’ Let’s just say I still have a lot to learn.

“But I do know a thing or two about winning. I think they can translate quite well.

“I know that success starts with the work that goes into it when the world is not watching. I know a team is nothing without the city showing up and standing behind it. The most important thing is that I know I like being the underdog.’

Birmingham will play in a cup match against Cheltenham on Tuesday.
