Man United parade Rasmus Hojlund in front of fans at Old Trafford after striker completes £72 million transfer from Atalanta

Rasmus Hojlund is paraded in front of Manchester United fans at Old Trafford after the club confirmed a deal with Atalanta worth up to £72 million.

Hojlund was introduced to the public on Saturday before the friendly between United and Lens after signing a five-year contract with an option for a further year, subject to international approval.

United have agreed to pay £64 million plus up to £8 million in add-ons for the 20-year-old striker who has scored 27 goals in 87 club appearances for Atalanta, Sturm Graz and FC Copenhagen, as well as six goals in six appearances for Denmark.

Hojlund said: “It’s no secret that I’ve been a fan of this great club since I was a little boy, and I dreamed of walking out of Old Trafford playing for Manchester United.

“I am incredibly excited by this opportunity to make that dream come true and I am determined to repay the trust the club has shown in me. It’s still early in my career, but I know I’m ready to take this step up and play with this group of world-class players.

‘Once I spoke to the manager, I knew this environment would be perfect for my development;

I enjoy the chance to work with one of the best coaches in the world. Under his guidance and support, I know that I am capable of great things together with my new teammates at this special club.’

Hojlund will be United’s third signing this summer after Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount and Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana moved to Old Trafford.

United’s director of football John Murtough said: ‘Rasmus is a truly exceptional talent; he possesses technical and physical attributes that make him one of the best players in the world for his age group.

‘Working under Erik ten Hag and his coaches will provide Rasmus with the perfect development platform; everyone at the club will make sure he has the time and all the support he needs to reach his huge potential.

“All summer we acted quickly and decisively to secure our primary goals early in the transfer window. This will ensure that Erik and his coaches have the best chance of preparing the squad for further success in the exciting campaign ahead.”
