Homicide detectives are investigating after a man was shot dead while walking down a Melbourne street.
Police were called to Almeida Crescent in South Yarra, close to the nightlife on the popular Chapel Street, at around 11:40pm Friday after reports of a man being shot at.
The man, who has not yet been identified, suffered life-threatening injuries and later died in hospital.
Detectives have yet to determine the circumstances, but believe the incident was a target.

“Detectives are still working to determine the exact circumstances of the incident, but would like to speak to anyone who witnessed anything or saw any cameras or dashcam footage of the incident,” Victoria Police said.
Officers cordoned off the area and cordoned off a crime scene, which remained at the scene Saturday morning.
A black dual cab ute has been dusted off for evidence by a forensic team.

“I heard five or six shots,” they said.
“I was just watching a movie and you don’t really think anything of it.”
“When I went for a walk this morning, there were all these police.”
Officers are now focused on tracking down the person responsible for the shooting.
