Man, 49, who spent 15 years searching for his sister before meeting on Long Lost Family reveals bizarre similarities between her and their mother – despite never knowing each other

A man who didn’t know he had a sister until he was 14 years old has finally met her for the first time – revealing that she bizarrely resembles her birth mother despite never having met her.

Simon Miller, 49, a supermarket assistant from Putney, will appear on ITV’s Long Lost Family on Monday to fulfill his late mother’s dying wish to find her daughter – whom she gave up for adoption in hopes of giving her a better life to give.

And now that the siblings have met, Simon FEMAIL opened up about the bizarre ways his sister Bronwen reminds him of their parent – Beverley – who passed away in 2008.

“I see a lot of my mother in her,” he said. “She’s got her nose, just like me.” And it’s not just their physical appearance.

Bronwen and Beverley both have the same special sweet tooth for Bounty bars and gingerbread cookies. The duo also labeled both roast dinner and Spaghetti Bolognese as their “favorites.”

Simon and his sister now WhatsApp every day, and while they were complete strangers until recently, the siblings have plenty to talk about.

“I didn’t feel any awkwardness,” he revealed. “It feels strange, because we both have a lot in common, in terms of film and TV.”

Oddly enough, their birthdays are also just one day away – which Simon says had confused Beverley in the past.

The couple catch up on their daily lives and discuss their upbringing. Simon also tells his sister about Beverley – whom he has called her ‘mumBev’, because she has another adopted mother.

“I would have understood if she didn’t want to know,” he admitted, explaining that Brownen’s wishes were his priority throughout the process of finding her.

“When people have asked my mom, ‘Why didn’t you look for her’ — because she was afraid of rejection,” he said.

Beverley would be “at peace” and feel “overwhelmed and happy” when he and Bronwen were seen reaching out, Simon said. “I feel like she looks down on us,” he added.

Simon was a teenager when he first learned that his mother had given birth to a baby girl. She later explained that the relationship she was in while carrying Bronwen ended, leaving her devastated and unable to cope.

Simon also grew up with an older brother, David, who is very supportive of Simon’s quest, but didn’t want to be on camera. Both in the picture when they were kids

Devastated, but wanting to give her little one a better life, she gave the baby up for adoption.

“She was a little nervous to tell me,” Simon recalled upon hearing the news. “I was shocked… I was gutted, but looking back I can see why she would get upset on certain days like Christmas.”

Even though it took time for both of them to come to terms with the shocking confession, the revelation “brought them closer together.”

He also grew up with an older brother, David, who is very supportive of Simon’s quest but didn’t want to get on camera. He is ‘overwhelmed’ and excited by the news and looks forward to meeting Bronwen in person.

In 2008, Beverley died shortly after being diagnosed with cancer – and as a dying wish, he asked Simon to find Bronwen to explain why she was giving her away and apologise.

“I feel like if you’re trying to find someone in life, don’t give up,” he stressed. “It took me 15 years to find her… And I’d do it all over again – I know Bronwen feels the same way.”

He is “grateful to have met her” and is “sad it didn’t happen sooner.” “But I guess it wasn’t meant to be until then,” Simon added.

The heartwarming reunion hosted by Davina McCall on the show was thrilling, he admitted.

“Before I went in, I was more nervous than in the morning,” he revealed. “I didn’t know I would be so emotional, but I was. We both cried and we both laughed. We talk a lot on the phone, WhatsApp every day.’

In September he even goes to Bronwen for a long weekend to finally meet his nieces – 22 and 24 years old – in person for the first time.

“My mom had (Bronwen) 14 days and she said it was the best 14 days of her life. And then they came and got her and she said it was devastating and she’s been punishing herself ever since,” Simon told the programme.

The show eventually hunted Bronwen – who now lives in Shropshire with her husband and two daughters.

She told Nicky Campbell that she had a happy childhood with a supportive family around her – and that she had heard of her older brother David when she was 12.

“Knowing I had a brother was hard because I couldn’t meet him, I couldn’t play with him. So I couldn’t be a sister,” she said. However, she knew nothing about Simon.

“I can’t wait for the next chapter in my life with my sister,” he added. “Now that I’ve found her, I’ll always have her in my life. Because I have to make up for 53 years!’
