Australian Daniel Quinn fights for his life in Bali hospital after horrific motorcycle accident on Sydneysider’s 30th birthday

An Australian tourist fights for his life in Bali after a horrific motorcycle accident.

Daniel Quinn, 30, from Sydney, was found face down by his friends after he passed out and crashed his motorcycle while on holiday.

After he was rushed to the hospital, doctors found a blood clot in his brain that required life-saving emergency surgery to remove.

Mr Quinn has since undergone extensive surgery and remains in intensive care following the accident on his 30th birthday, just days into his two-week holiday in Bali.

His family has fled to Bali out of mercy to be by his side as he prepares to undergo more surgeries to prevent him from going blind.

a GoFundMe was launched to help cover his medical expenses, which is approaching his $100,000 goal.

Mr. Quinn’s mother, Lesley, recalled every parent’s worst nightmare after seeing her son with bandages on his head for the first time.

“I just experienced a parent’s worst nightmare when they were told your child has suffered a traumatic head injury and needs life-saving surgery,” she wrote online.

Daniel suffered a massive blood clot in the front of his brain that created pressure and pushed his brain down onto the base of his skull.

“As a result, he lost consciousness and the ability to breathe and lost all basic skills.”

The accident happened on his 30th birthday, which his mother said was unbearable.

Before making the final blow to Bali, his parents had to sign documents allowing Indonesian doctors to perform the surgery that saved their son’s life.

Mr Quinn underwent an evacuation craniotomy and a cranioplasty to remove the clot, and has undergone several skin grafts to repair the damage to his face from the motorcycle accident.

On Tuesday afternoon, Mr. Quinn underwent another surgery to relieve pressure on his optic nerve, which could hopefully save him from blindness.

All further operations to aid his recovery are now suspended until the family can make the prepayment, which is required in Bali before surgeons can operate.

Ms. Quinn revealed that her family has already paid more than $70,000 to save Mr. Quinn’s life.

“Our hands are tied, because in Bali no operation is performed without payment first, even if it is life-threatening,” she continued.

“Bills will continue to rise the longer he stays.

“Any kind of support is greatly appreciated for Daniel’s recovery to stay safe at home in Australia.”

Launched Tuesday, the GoFundMe has now raised more than $92,000 from generous donations that will be used to support Mr. Quinn’s recovery.

At the time of the incident, he was on vacation with his sister and their friend before losing consciousness.

Mr. Quinn’s friends found him lying face down on the side of the road, more than five meters from the motorcycle he had been riding.

His sister immediately called their mother, who was walking with a friend in Sydney when she heard the news of her son’s condition.

After catching the first flight to Bali, airport security prioritized her entry and rushed her to BIMC Hospital Kuta, in time for Mr. Quinn’s optic nerve surgery.

“His brain surgery took place while we were on the flight and we didn’t know what to expect until we got there,” Ms Quinn told news.com.au.

“He’s on a ventilator. There are tubes coming out of each limb.

“It’s been a nightmare.”
