British cycling director Stephen Park has claimed it would be ‘a chore’ for Laura Kenny to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics after giving birth to her second child last month.

Kenny and husband Jason, Britain’s most successful Olympian, welcomed their second son Monty on July 20.

The couple are already parents to Albie, who was born in 2017.

With less than a year to go until the 2024 Paris Olympics, British Cycling does not expect the five-time gold medalist to return in time to compete in the Games.

said Park The Telegraph that Kenny was more likely to return to competition at the World Championships by the end of 2024.

“I think it’s going to be hard for her to come back to Paris,” Park said.

“I think at the moment she is planning to come back for the World Cup at the end of the year.

“We definitely expect (Kenny) to get back on the bike.

“She has a return program. But you know, you have to come back and be in good shape.

“She is in an incredibly competitive squad with some very strong riders. And she absolutely must be ready and motivated to do so. The last time I spoke to her, she was.

“But you know, she just had a baby. So I dare say there will be some time to get used to that before she is able to think about (the Olympics).”

Kenny had returned to competition just six months after Albie’s birth in 2017.

The 31-year-old refused to rule out the prospect of taking part in Paris 2024 when he met the Manchester evening news in May.

“I just think, never say never,” Kenny said.

“If I don’t try I’ll never know and I know a year seems insane but people have done crazier things.

“If I don’t try, I don’t know if I’m going to make it or not. I don’t want to look back and think “what if I had tried”.’

Kenny had suffered a miscarriage in November 2021 and an ectopic pregnancy in January 2022.

She announced her pregnancy earlier this year and confirmed Monty’s arrival in an Instagram post last month.

Kenny shared a photo of her two boys in matching cardigans with their names on the back.

Kenny adds a rainbow emoji at the end of the post that symbolizes “a rainbow baby” – a child born after a previous loss.

Jason, who won seven gold and two bronze medals during his Olympic career, announced his retirement after Tokyo 2020.

The 35-year-old is now the coach of the British men’s sprint team, which will compete at the World Championships in Glasgow this month.
