Mollie King says daughter Annabella could become a cricketer just like her ‘hands-on’ dad Stuart Broad – and even wears his signature bandana

Former The Saturdays singer Mollie King has revealed that her daughter could become a cricketer just like her famous dad – even wearing his signature bandana.

Mollie and fiancé Stuart Broad welcomed baby Annabella last year and mother and daughter were at The Oval to watch the England bowler end Australia’s hopes of winning the latest Ashes series.

37-year-old Stuart shocked the cricketing world by announcing his retirement halfway through the last game – but we may not have to wait too long for a new chapter in the Broad family legacy.

Stuart’s dad Chris opened the batting for England and Mollie thinks their daughter could follow in his footsteps because of the incredible bond they share.

Mollie, 36, told Five Live: ‘He’s practical, he’s so proud of her he really is. He likes to parade her around, he’s great.

“I’m sure she’ll get into cricket when she’s older – let’s see if she has a little bandana, if Stuart has anything to do with it I’m sure she will.

“He came home recently with a little Ashes England shirt with Broad on the back, so cute.

‘He’s handy and he adores her and she adores him, her little face lights up when he enters.

“At home he’s so laid back, he’s so laid back and then I watch him on TV and I’m like, ‘Is that the same person?’

“He’s so relaxed and gentle and sweet and I see him being competitive out there. i’m like; “Is that Stuart?”

‘But my god he loves it, he absolutely loves it (cricket). I don’t think he thought he would play every test, he was just great. He loves it, he lives and breathes it and even when he’s not playing he watches it.

‘Without wanting to sound corny, we try to make as much time as possible, just support each other and be there for each other.

“I never wanted to miss this, it’s nice to see him doing what he loves.”

Mollie also revealed she’s behind his signature bandana after a botched haircut – the result of not being able to get a professional trim during the UK national lockdown.

Mollie said: ‘He couldn’t cut his hair during COVID. So he started with the bandana and he had a really good summer when he first wore it and he hasn’t taken it off since.

“I tried to cut his hair during lockdown but obviously I’ve never used a razor like this before and I had the razor the wrong way and it cut as tight as possible just above his ear.

He said, “Stop there.” I said “I can’t stop there, Stuart, because you’ve got one side like a zero cut and the other side – it all has to go”.

“So that wasn’t a great afternoon for us, so hence the bandana.”

Mollie was interviewed by BBC TMS’ Jonathan Agnew, who had to explain that the interview was conducted before Stuart’s shock announcement of his retirement – and she didn’t signal him.

Agnew, asking Mollie how long Stuart planned on playing, said, ‘She sold me down there on the river. Well done Molly. She knew it and she answered it with the most sincere faces.
