Drone footage captured the extraordinary moment when a shark lurked in the middle of a feeding frenzy meters away from unsuspecting swimmers and a paddleboard rider.

The video shared by the DroneShark App depicts two swimmers heading for a large school of salmon during their Saturday morning swim at Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach.

They casually swim past the mass of fish as a gray nurse shark named ‘Norm’ suddenly emerges from the bait ball.

The woman eventually notices the predator below just inches away from her.

Two Bondi swimmers got the shock of their lives when they realized what was lurking below

The terrified woman froze in horror for a moment before hurried over to her male swimmer companion and grabbed his hand.

The couple swims away hand in hand.

The footage ends with the shark returning to the bait ball to continue its feeding frenzy.

Gray nurse sharks have a calm disposition and are generally considered harmless to humans.

The video elicited several reactions from stunned viewers.

“If there had been an attack, the sharks would have been to blame again. They only do what they do in their environment. We have to respect that and stay out of the water until the bait ball and sharks have left and they should be glad they weren’t great whites instead of the labrador of the seas.
